DoD has a need for Automated Air-to-Air Refueling (AAR) of unmanned air vehicles (UAV). Advanced Optical Systems, Inc. (AOS) has extensive space rendezvous and docking sensor development experience and technologies that are directly applicable to the AAR problem.
The intent of this white paper is to provide a plan to develop, to a proof-of-concept prototype level, those Time of Flight (TOF) technologies that AOS considers most capable of providing a robust TOF capability for Autonomous Rendezvous and Docking (AR&D).
This white paper describes the results of performance tests completed on the AOS Advanced Video Guidance Sensor Block II (AVGS).
AOS has demonstrated our image geo-registration capability with unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) and satellite imagery using the ULTOR™ system. Further, we have shown the ability to register imagery collected from different types of sensors. This technology can be applied to navigation for lunar landing, initially providing range and bearing information.
